On the morning of July 23rd, 1967 Hungarian Leader János Kádár signed the launch order for a secret mission to send four unknown Hungarian cosmonauts on a test mission to orbit the moon and attempt the first launch of a lunar module.
According to leaked documents, the project and ship were code named “Emese,” and officially the Hungarian Mission Control based in Tapolca (near Balaton) declared the mission failed as they lost communication with the Emese before it reached lunar orbit. What actually happened to those cosmonauts was a mystery until…
In April of 1992, a Hungarian military cadet visited a local watering hole near the military barracks on the northern shore of Lake Balaton outside the town of Tapolca. The cadet overheard a drunk military Vet mumbling incoherent stories about an underground military base and a secret mission to the moon.
The cadet plied the Vet with hard alcohol (Palinka) until he eventually gave a detailed description of his connection to this so called secret mission and produced a photograph of himself and several other officers standing in front of a flatbed silo truck in front of the Topolca Volcano where the underground mission control bunker had been supposedly built.
As far-fetched as the story sounded, it stuck with the cadet for many years until in 2019 that cadet decided to use our band as a time machine to explore the truth of these unsung heroes’ mission and give voice to their untold story across the epic audio arc of the album THE SPACE ERASE.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
